FAQs

What is the difference between CBD and THC?

Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two most prominent cannabinoids found in cannabis, the plant genus that includes both hemp and marijuana. While there are over 100 different cannabinoids so far identified in cannabis by scientists, CBD and THC are the most extensively studied and best understood.

CBD is a compound largely found in hemp plants and most commonly used to produce CBD hemp oil, powder and isolates. CBD is non- intoxicating. THC is a compound largely found in marijuana plants and is responsible for the euphoric “high” that people experience when they ingest or smoke marijuana.

Can I get “high” from consuming a CBD infused product?

A common misconception among consumers is that CBD produces a psychoactive “high” because it is derived from cannabis plants. Although cannabidiol (aka CBD) produces some noticeable effects, it does not make people feel high. When consumed properly, CBD- infused edibles deliver cannabinoids to the body that can alleviate pain and other symptoms associated with a host of medical conditions and mental health disorders.

How does consuming an edible differ from smoking or vaping?

Compared to smoking or vaping, edibles can give you a stronger, longer lasting effect- sometimes up to six hours, but will take longer to kick in- generally 30-90 minutes. When smoking or vaping cannabis, the effects can generally be felt within minutes, peak within 30 to 60 minutes and taper off after two to four hours. Additionally, smoking and vaping can affect the lungs in a way that ingesting edibles does not.

I’m new to edibles. What’s the best way for me to try them out?

Everyone’s tolerance level is different, based on factors like weight, body mass, etc. but the general rule of thumb is to start small at roughly 5-10 milligrams (MG) of CBD or THC and build up to higher doses in 5 MG increments. For example, when consuming a cannabis-infused edible, the best practice is to consume one 5-10 MG unit, wait at least 30 minutes, then determine whether to consume an additional 5-10 MG after assessing the effects of the initial dosage. Again, it is important to remember that there is generally a 30 - 60 minute digestion period before the effects of an infused edible are felt. It is highly advised to wait at least 30 minutes before consuming a second serving of any edible product.

What are some of the health conditions that can be helped with cannabis consumption?

Cannabinoids -- the active chemicals in cannabis and hemp plants -- are similar to chemicals the body makes that are involved in appetite, memory, movement, and pain. Research suggests cannabinoids might help in the following ways:

  • Reduce anxiety

  • Reduce inflammation and relieve pain

  • Control nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy

  • Kill cancer cells and slow tumor growth

  • Relax tight muscles in people with MS

  • Stimulate appetite and improve weight gain in people with cancer and AIDS
